Absaroka-Beartooth Outfitters is owned and operated by licensed outfitter Cameron Mayo and his wife, Lonny Allestad Mayo in Big Timber, MT. Cameron is a passionate adventurer with a charismatic personality who has hunted, fished and guided throughout the United States, in Mexico and in Africa. He is a recipient of the Outfitter of the Year award presented by Montana Outfitters & Guides Association.

Lonny is an accomplished horsewoman and guide. She is a recipient of the Guide of the Year award presented by Montana Outfitters & Guides Association. Born and raised on a sheep ranch in Montana, Lonny spent many summers in her youth in the mountains grazing sheep. The wilderness is a second home for her.

Cameron and Lonny are cattle and sheep ranchers and have a haying operation as well. Generations of Lonny’s family have ranched in this valley and summer grazed sheep in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. Their way of life and the experience gained by living it, is evidenced in every adventure on which they take their clients.

Cameron, Lonny, their 3 children, Cameron’s mother, Lonny’s parents, our guides, staff, and the community of Big Timber each contribute to making the experience of every hunter, angler and day visitor an unforgettable one.

Lonny’s family’s sheep operation is featured in a documentary film, “Sweet Grass.” Her family held the last forest service permit for grazing sheep in the AB Wilderness. Sheep grazing is no longer permitted in the AB Wilderness, so the documentary chronicles a time gone by and is a beautifully made window into the old ways.
