Wilderness Fly-fishing Pack Trips

This trip is for the angler adventurer. We offer 6-day wilderness fly fishing pack trips. The first day of the 6-day excursion is spent in our backcountry camp, Independence. Independence is located 55 miles south of Big Timber and accessed primarily by horseback. At Independence you will spend the afternoon hiking, fishing, and enjoying an evening by the campfire. The next day is a four-and-a-half-hour horseback ride to our Hellroaring wilderness camp. You will ride over the Hellroaring Divide topping 10,000 feet preceded or followed by a pack string straight out of the old west. By the time you descend into beautiful Bull Moose Meadow and our camp, you will be on scenic overload – but that will not stop your eyes from lighting up when you realize the two forks of Hellroaring Creek meet right at camp. You are now among the lucky few who get to experience the solitude and abundant fly-fishing of Hellroaring. Your location is 8 miles north of Yellowstone National Park in the heart of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. Not to fear, our guides will escort you every step of the way. You will find them knowledgeable, skillful and HELPFUL. Your ONLY CARE will be to catch fish, have fun and enjoy what is justifiably called “God’s country.” Those who just want to relax, read, backpack, bird watch, photograph or paint will prove just as satisfied as the angler. In camp accommodations consist of comfortable, roomy, carpeted, wall tents with wood stoves, cots with foam pads, a hot shower, a roaring campfire and first class meals prepared by our camp cook.

Float Fishing Trips

We offer single day and multi-day float fishing trips on southwest Montana’s finest rivers. Absaroka Beartooth Outfitter is based out of Big Timber, MT with fishing partners based in Livingston and Bozeman, giving us the ability to cover the whole region. We typically focus on the Yellowstone, Boulder, Madison and Gallatin rivers, with the ability for multi-day trips on the Missouri, Big Horn and Big Hole upon request. Our boats accommodate two fishermen and a guide. A day on the river starts early in the morning with transportation included to and from the river. You will fish with comfort and ease from the best drift boats on the market. Fishing from a drift boat offers the angler several advantages, including the ability to present their fly correctly without difficult wading conditions or impeded back casts. Floating gives fishermen the chance to cover more water, see lots of scenery and have new fishing opportunities with every cast. Our guides like to fish the river in accordance to the conditions, hatches and fish activity of each day. Our goal is to customize your trip to be the best possible. If the fishing is getting hot early or late we try to adjust river time for your best fishing opportunity. This is not an 8-5 job for us. It’s about fishing and sharing the incredible opportunities Montana has to offer. Non-anglers are encouraged to join in the adventure. Whether the non-anglers’ preference is to float and read or to enjoy the sights, sounds, and fresh air of the Big Sky Country, our comfortable drift boats will provide them a relaxing day on one of Montana’s pristine rivers.

Fishing Licenses not included in price of excursions/trips. (For license information check out MFWP).
